Focusing on mental health should be a no-brainer.

1. We can’t stress this enough.

Just because your employees are not speaking up about experiencing stress, does not mean that it’s not an ongoing problem. Burnout rates are sky-high, as shown in our results below. One in five employees experienced (very) strong signs of stress/burnout in the past year (18%)making it even more crucial to ensure that your employees get adequate support to communicate about this. Among all respondents, half did not communicate their stress symptoms to their employer. Also, about 55% of employees feel slightly to very comfortable talking about mental health issues within their organization.

2. Focusing on mental health should be a no-brainer.

Employees can thrive at work and in life when they have peace of mind. Don’t just take our word for it, our respondents from all over the world also ranked mental health wellbeing as the top attribute. Brazil (73%), Portugal (65%), and Spain (63%) lead the way.

Almost four out of five employees see a correlation between being happy at work and how it affects their general wellbeing (78%). This shows how much work and private life are interrelated. Interestingly, most employees (63%) prefer their managers to do regular check-ins on their wellbeing. That calls for more leadership training regarding this topic.

3. The right skill to chill.

Before you embark on your work happiness journey, you need an understanding of where to start. We asked our respondents to pick the skill that would positively influence their wellbeing the most. The clear favorite: Stress management skills. These are techniques and strategies to cope with and reduce the negative effects of stress, also found in courses like Oh Yes, It’s Stress, Resilience, and The Power of Breathing. Next up, Communication skills are the second most influential on the well-being of our respondents. This is the key to building strong relationships, which we’ll cover in our next result. Which of the skills shown below is your organization already investing in?

4. The power of connection.

Fostering an environment of trust, support, and open communication leads to tons of benefits: increased job satisfaction, improved performance, reduced stress levels, and enhanced overall wellbeing. But don’t take our word for it, check out how our respondents see this.

5. Good things come to those who don’t wait.

Taking the right and sufficient number of measures, related to the mental health and wellbeing of your employees, might seem like a mountain too big to climb, but waiting is not an option. Especially when it comes to personal development, and the link it has with the wellbeing of your workforce. Our research shows that 67% of respondents (strongly) agree that personal development would help them increase work happiness. In total 84% of the respondents, who indicated they would leave because of lack of personal development opportunities, would leave within a year. Poland (93%), Switzerland (90%), and the United Kingdom (90%) are atop that list.
